7 Easy Ways to Save Money on Halloween

Whether you’re buying costumes for the kids, decorating your home or stocking up on candy for trick-or-treaters, Halloween can get expensive fast. Here are seven easy ways to save this Halloween!

‍

DIY Your Costume

Use what you already have lying around the house to make your own costume! Old clothes, everyday makeup or even regular household items can make a great costume. For anything you’re missing, check thrift stores or consignment shops for inexpensive clothing, accessories and props.

‍

Host a Costume Swap

If you have friends with children around the same age or belong to any clubs, teams or play groups, consider swapping costumes with other parents. Since many costumes are only worn once or twice, they’re often still in excellent condition. It’s an easy way for everyone to get something “new” without buying another costume.

‍

Shop the Dress-Up Aisle

Depending on the character, you may be able to find a costume in the dress-up or pretend-play section of the toy department. These outfits can sometimes cost less than seasonal Halloween costumes and have the added bonus of being something kids can continue playing with long after Halloween.

‍

Buy Carving Pumpkins at the Grocery Store

Love the pumpkin patch experience? Go for the fun, but consider buying your carving pumpkins elsewhere. Grocery and big-box stores often sell standard carving pumpkins for around $4-$5, making them an easy place to save, especially if you need several.

‍

Decorate With What You Already Have

Before buying more Halloween décor, take a look at what you already own and find simple ways to give it a spooky twist. Swap your regular porch or outdoor lightbulbs for orange or purple ones, add inexpensive spiderwebs to existing décor, or repurpose fall decorations you already have. A few small changes can make a big impact without buying an entirely new set of decorations.

‍

Rethink Your Trick-or-Treat Handouts

Buying enough candy for a crowd of trick-or-treaters can get expensive. Compare the cost of bulk candy with inexpensive non-candy treats like stickers, pencils, glow sticks or small prizes. Shopping early gives you time to compare prices and choose whichever option gives you the most for your money.

‍

Shop for Next Halloween on Clearance

Once Halloween is over, keep an eye out for clearance instead of forgetting about the holiday until next year. Costumes, decorations, lights, party supplies and other seasonal items can see significant markdowns as stores make room for the next holiday. Use BrickSeek to see nearby deals and set alerts to catch those markdowns quickly. Stock up on things you know you’ll use and stash them away for next Halloween.
‍

Halloween doesn’t have to be scary expensive. However you celebrate, a little planning can help you have a great Halloween while spending less. Here’s to a spooky season full of savings! 👻

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
